Des adresses URL inutilement compliquées

La ville de Montréal a fait peau neuve avec la nouvelle mouture de son site web mais au passage, ses adresses URL sont devenues inutilement compliquées.

Alors qu’auparavant, la logique des adresses était simple et efficace, il n’y a strictement rien à comprendre aux nouvelles adresses émanant du portail de la ville.

Auparavant, les adresses étaient logiques, tel que:

  • www.ville.montreal.qc.ca/mtlnord
  • www.ville.montreal.qc.ca/outremont

…et ainsi de suite, ces mêmes adresses ont été changées pour:

  • http://ville.montreal.qc.ca/portal/page?_pageid=2120,2652002&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL
  • http://ville.montreal.qc.ca/portal/page?_pageid=105,2437272&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

Avouez que c’est —impossible— de se rappeler de ces adresses et donc de les inscrire directement. Avec son nouveau portail web, la ville de Montréal condamne ses cyber-visiteurs à passer par sa page d’accueil ou un quelconque moteur de recherche, comme Google, Yahoo! ou Live.

Pourquoi avoir tué l’ancienne logique de navigation qui fonctionnait si bien?

Difficile à dire mais à l’évidence, ce n’était pas l’intérêt du citoyen qui est « passé en premier » mais bien l’évidente paresse intellectuelle du « développeur » couplé à l’indifférence ronflante des élus de la ville qui n’ont manifestement aucun intérêt pour ces choses.

Qu’une ville de taille de Montréal soit incapable de présenter des adresses URL plus propres s’avère gênant, surtout que la ville cherche à s’imposer à titre de capitale du développement informatique, à l’échelle mondiale. Franchement, au chapitre des URLs, on était beaucoup mieux servis avec l’ancien site.

Tandis qu’on est sur le sujet, ce nouveau portail web est programmé en ASP, une technologie « morte » issue du géant Microsoft.

Tant qu’à changer de site web, il aurait été opportun d’aller vers le « libre » via du PHP et MySQL, deux technologies qui, combinées, auraient facilement pu soutenir le site actuel de la ville de Montréal et qui, contrairement aux technologies « propriétaires », sont complètement gratuites!

Comme c’est le citoyen qui paie, les élus de la ville ont l’air de n’avoir aucun intérêt à favoriser des solutions « open source » pour l’avenir de leurs vitrines web, c’est dommage… et inutilement dispendieux. Ça envoie de très mauvais signaux en ce qui a trait à la surveillance diligente des dépenses municipales.

Le maire, Gérald Tremblay, devrait prêter attention au site web de -SA- ville parce que pour de nombreux visiteurs, incluant ceux qui sont forts en informatique, c’est souvent le premier contact qu’ils ont avec la métropole — ce serait bien de ne pas leur donner des hauts-le-cœur avec des URLs aussi inutilement compliqués qu’impossibles à retenir…
